In 2016, after experiencing chest paid, fatigue and weakness, Doug Warfe was diagnosed with aortic stenosis. He chose the Guthrie Cardiac and Vascular Center to provide life-saving treatment.
Doug received a new aortic valve through Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), a minimally invasive procedure performed while the heart is beating. The new valve is moved through a balloon catheter to the heart, where it is inflated into its final position.
Because TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure, the chest is not cut open and 40 percent of patients require no anesthesia. Recovery is quicker than with traditional open heart surgery, with an average hospital stay of two days.
Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital was the first in the region to offer TAVR. Guthrie has now performed more than 160 TAVR procedures, putting you in the hands of a highly experienced team.
