NRP - [Neonatal Resuscitation Program®]

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program® (NRP®) course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills.

There are two levels of instruction: The Essentials and Advanced Provider.

Both courses require RQI quarterly training on a simulation station located in Corning, Cortland, Lourdes and Robert Packer Labor and Delivery Units.  These courses are available only for Guthrie employed staff.

Essentials provides basic instruction for the first steps of resuscitation during the newborn period. This training focuses on positive pressure ventilation, compressions, and use of a laryngeal mask airway.

Advanced Provider trains for umbilical line placement, advanced airway, medications, and other acute medical concerns in the newborn period.  Typically, you will be assigned Advanced Provider training by your manager. This course is for medical staff attending deliveries and providing newborn care regularly.
