Program Director

John C. Welch Jr., D.O., FACOFP, FAAFPJohn C. Welch Jr., D.O., FACOFP, FAAFP, AAHIVS

Dr. Welch, a native resident of Upstate New York, graduated from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, N.Y. He did his internship and residency at United Health Services in Johnson City, N.Y. Dr. Welch is board certified by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He has always desired a career that combined patient care with medical education and is very enthusiastic about training physicians in the Southern Tier. Dr. Welch started his role as the founding Family Medicine Program Director in 2014. In 2017, he became the Director of Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official and continues to foster academic and professional success of all learners in medical education. Dr. Welch also served as the Lourdes Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program Medical Director 2013-2023 and is an active member of the Lourdes Provider Leadership Council. His medical interests are in HIV medicine and geriatrics but as a family physician he enjoys treating patients in all stages of life. Dr. Welch strongly believes in physician and caregiver wellness and his favorite well-being activities are gardening, fitness, music, and spending time with his family. 


Associate Program Directors

Lisa Newman, D.O.Lisa Newman, D.O.

Dr. Newman graduated from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at Mercy Suburban Hospital, Norristown, Pa. She is board certified in Family Medicine and OMM and is the Quality Director for the residency clinic.

 

 

 

Thomas Martin D.OThomas Martin D.O.

Dr. Martin graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at United Health Services in Johnson City, N.Y. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Martin served as the President of Lourdes Hospital Medical Staff from 2009-2011 and was the Professional Practice Committee Chairperson from 2011-2012. He is the Director of Osteopathic Education and serves as the Medical Director for the residency clinic. 

 


Core Faculty

Susan Jackson, D.O.

Dr. Jackson graduated from University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo. She completed her residency at Medical Center of Independence in Independence, Mo. Dr. Jackson served as an Army physician for 7 years with a tour in Iraq. She is board certified in Family Medicine and OMM and her focus is on leading the Women's Health curriculum for our program. Dr. Jackson also serves as the Family Medicine Department Chairperson at Lourdes.

Ian Stuppel, D.O.Ian Stuppel, D.O.

Dr. Stuppel graduated from the University of Florida and completed medical school at Des Moines University. He completed Family Medicine residency training at Long Beach Medical Center, Long Beach, New York. He is board certified in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. His practice is located in Owego, New York.

 

 

 

Dylan Winter, D.O.

Dr. Winter graduated from NYITCOM before starting residency at Guthrie Lourdes Family Residency Program. He has joined Guthrie Lourdes as a Family Medicine primary care provider and is Board Certified in OMM. Teaching is his favorite part of his practice.

Gary Dean, M.D.Gary Dean, M.D.

Dr. Dean completed his medical training at the SUNY Upstate Health Science Center and United Health Services. He has received several awards in teaching and has held faculty appointments with Upstate Medical University and SUNY Binghamton. Additionally, Dr. Dean has served on several community committees, including the Child Advocacy Center, and is a former department chairperson for Family Medicine at Lourdes. 

 

 

James DellaValleJames DellaValle, M.D.

Dr. DellaValle graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed his residency training at Abington Memorial Hospital. He also holds a MBA from Binghamton University. Dr. DellaValle has many years of teaching experience and has additional certifications in Medical Acupuncture and Point of Care Ultrasound.

Jacob Kelly, M.D.

Hometown: Watkins Glen, New York
Undergrad School: Mansfield University
Medical School: American University of Antigua
What drew me to Family Medicine: The all-encompassing nature of the specialty with the ability to practice obstetrics, as well as the ability to develop long care relationships with your patients.
What do I like to do in my free time: I would like to restore old cars, go hiking, go horseback riding, go fishing, go hunting, and do woodworking.


Program Coordinator

Mary Beth Bobik-Kadylak

Mary Beth is a life long resident of the Binghamton area and has worked in a variety of health care settings throughout her career. Her passion over the years has been in service to health care providers, patients and families in order for them to attain their highest level of care and understanding of their illnesses. She holds a bachelor's degree in business with a focus in Human Resources and associate degrees in Health Information Technology and Liberal Arts. Mary Beth is a Licensed Notary Public. She is dedicated to our residents and faculty and assists them in achieving their goals for the program. Outside of work, Mary Beth enjoys time spent with family and friends - especially her grandchildren; reading, gardening and floral design. Her efforts in the community have resulted in multiple awards from Sertoma and recognition from various not-for-profit organizations that she became affiliated with. Mary Beth is proud to call this community home.
