What drew me to Family Medicine: Primary care and preventive medicine is the cornerstone for the promotion of overall health and well-being, which is what drew me to family medicine. Being in the unique position to see patients and their family of all ages, from birth to end-of-life, allows me to experience the most diversity in both physical and mental health pathology, socioeconomic status, and culture. Focusing on upstream determinants of health to truly address them for the better can significantly change the trajectory of one's life, and I think it is one of the most beautiful practices of medicine. As a family medicine physician, I can tailor my practice and research to my interests and still become a jack-of-all-trades leader in the community.
What do I like to do in my free time: Mountain/trail biking, hiking, taking my daughter to parks, observing and interacting with wildlife, video games, and dabbling with technology and computer programming.

What drew me to Family Medicine: After working in the ED prior to medical school and experiencing the various fields during clinical years, I felt most passionate about developing long term relationships with my patients and getting involved in their care from a holistic standpoint. Most people will see their family doctor more than anyone else so that is where I can make the greatest impact.
What do I like to do in my free time:  Tennis, football, basketball, disc golf, video games, reading, cooking, bouldering, Perler beads, listening to music.

What drew me to Family Medicine: To make a difference in people's lives when it matters the most. To lead someone away from the wayward path before it's too late. To prevent cracks from forming instead of bandaging leaks. Whether or not I make a significant impact to each patient, just being able to help makes a great difference to me!
What do I like to do in my free time: Lately I've been trying to document and categorize every bird in New York State. I'd love to photograph a Pileated woodpecker!

What drew me to Family Medicine: I orginally thought that I wanted to be a plastic surgeon, but after anatomy, I was not so sure. My first rotation in medical school was in family medicine and it instantly clicked for me. I like being able to develop rapport with patients and work with a variety of age groups and concerns.

I find value in developing long-term relationships with my patients, as this can help to build trust and improve patient outcomes over time, which is very rewarding.
What do I like to do in my free time:  I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going on long drives to explore new places, watching (and occasionally playing) tennis, and rooting for Roger Federer to return from retirement.

What drew me to Family Medicine: I was inspired to pursue Family Medicine by a young woman I cared for while in medical school who was stigmatized for having Sickle Cell Disease, something which ultimately causing a huge disparity in her care. My experience with her led me to realize I had a passion for providing care to someone in every stage of their life. I enjoy providing guidance and advocating for complex patients who lack medical literacy. I value empathy, compassion, and the ability to establish trust with people. I was drawn to family medicine because it gives me the freedom to care for the whole person rather than a single diagnosis.
What do I like to do in my free time: Traveling, cooking, theatre, weightlifting, being a plant-mom, and most of all watching my hometown sports teams (Go Orioles! Go Ravens!)

What drew me to Family Medicine: Teaching is what drew me to FM. Whether it is educating patients about their chronic conditions or being able to teach medical students because of the wide range of pathologies we see in family medicine, teaching is by far my favorite aspect of this specialty. Another aspect of family medicine that I enjoyed was being on the frontlines of recognizing, diagnosing and starting initial treatment for depression/anxiety.
