Welcome From the Program Director

John C. Welch, Jr., DO, FACOFP, FAAFPWelcome to the Lourdes Family Medicine Residency!

I am delighted you are here to learn more about our program. I have been the director since its inception in 2014 and am so thrilled with our success. We are a 10-10-10, community-based program which focuses on the care of all patients with special attentiveness to the most vulnerable. As we approach our second decade, we are excited to be part of The Guthrie Clinic and offer even more individualized opportunities for your learning and professional growth. Our graduates have been very successful in meeting their career goals and we are eager to help tailor your educational plan to meet your needs as well. We are also proud of maintaining a 100% board pass rate for our graduates. Here at Lourdes, you will have strong advisory support with a positive learning culture that focuses on your progression to become a competent, compassionate and autonomous family physician. We are here to help make your goal a reality. Please reach out to us if you have any questions. I wish you the best as you look toward the next phase of your education.

Mission and Aims

We believe in the practice of evidence-based medicine throughout every educational experience. Our program focuses on providing a high-quality, patient-centered approach to medicine and prepares residents to practice competently in widely diverse practice settings. We foster a team approach in the delivery of medicine by working collaboratively with other primary care physicians, specialists, and ancillary providers. Recognizing the demands placed on a resident in training, Guthrie Lourdes highly regards resident wellness as a top priority.

At Guthrie Lourdes, our vision is to uphold the practice of evidence-based medicine in all educational experiences, deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, foster teamwork amongst all health providers, and prioritize resident wellness, preparing them for diverse practice settings.
