What drew me to  Pulmonology: The multidisciplinary approach to working as a team for the best outcome in critical patients is one of the things that attracted me to this specialty. Seeing patients who initially come to the ICU in complex situations leaving the ICU with improvement is very satisfying. Also, working during the COVID period was really a great experience that motivated me further toward critical care.|The interesting part of pulmonology is that we can see ICU patients in the pulmonary clinic after discharge, from which we can learn the course of the diseases, and maintain continuity of care which ultimately helps achieve better outcomes.
What do I like to do in my free time: Watching movies with my family, and playing soccer, cricket, and tennis with my friends. I love to hike and am learning to ski.

What drew me to Pulmonology: My passion for Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine began during my residency training at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital and I yearn to augment my skills and knowledge as a Pulmonary/Critical care physician. The fast paced, quick thinking is what attracted me to this field. You get to be great at procedures, save lives when able, use critical thinking skills and treat and find what others may not think of.

SwalihMohamed Swalih, DO

Hometown: Ridgewood, New York
Undergrad School: CUNY Hunter College
Medical School: NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine
Residency: Northwell Long Island Jewish Forest Hills
What drew me to Pulmonology: There were these qualities I grew to admire during my medical training in the ICU and then I realized what I strive to become - a compassionate communicator who is specialized in the careful interpretation of bedside, laboratory, and imaging information, along with constant reassessments, and who is ultimately prepared to intervene swiftly on patients that are deteriorating. It was always love at first sight since my medical school days and I could not be happier to begin this part of my career. Now pulmonary medicine? Fascinating field and there is nothing more satisfying in relieving another's dyspnea.
What do I like to do in my free time: Resting; spending time with my loved ones; reading stories; looking into the idea of exercising, because it is a great idea; figuring out how to fix broken things; window shopping; and playing sports like handball and basketball.
