More Than 100 Years of Community Service
For more than 110 years, Corning Hospital has delivered high-quality health care to patients in the greater Corning region. Planning began in 1893, when a group of local leaders recognized the need for a health care facility in the rapidly growing community. In 1900, a local family agreed to lease their family estate rent-free to the town for three years, to be used as a hospital. Renovation began immediately on the Stearns House, located at East First and Chemung Streets in the City of Corning, and on June 4, 1900, Corning Hospital officially opened for patients. Over its long history, Corning Hospital has moved locations and expanded from nine beds into a comprehensive community hospital. First in 1950, and then in 1963 and 1990, the facility underwent major expansion and construction to provide Corning residents the latest in medical technology and services. In 1999, Corning Hospital chose to affiliate with the nationally-recognized Guthrie system, and later in 2004, was officially acquired by Guthrie, based in Sayre, Pa.
In July 2014, Guthrie Corning Hospital opened a brand new facility located at One Guthrie Drive in Corning, N.Y. conveniently located off I-86 at exit 48 or State Route 352. The facility features 65 private patient rooms including eight intensive care beds; five labor and delivery suites; an advanced 24/7 emergency department with Fast Track services and an on-site helipad; an on-site cancer center with infusion services; expanded surgical options with five state-of-the-art operating suites, two procedure rooms and a dedicated cesarean surgical suite; and expanded outpatient services like laboratory and medical imaging. This two-story, 235,000 square foot facility was designed to meet the needs of the regional community for generations to come.
