As national American Heart Month draws to a close, Guthrie is pleased to announce that Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital has been named a Blue Distinction Center+ for Cardiac Care by Highmark.
“The Guthrie Cardiac and Vascular Center at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is proud to have earned this national distinction. Thanks to our committed team of cardiac and vascular specialists we are able to deliver on Guthrie’s mission to provide the highest quality care possible to our patients,” said Dr. Daniel Sporn, Guthrie’s Chief of Cardiology.
Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated health care facilities shown to deliver improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community.
To receive a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care designation, a hospital must demonstrate its expertise in delivering safe and effective cardiac care, focusing on cardiac valve surgery, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) episodes of care. A hospital must also have earned national accreditation at the facility level. To receive a Blue Distinction Center+ for Cardiac Care designation hospitals must also demonstrate better cost-efficiency compared to their peers in addition to meeting the established quality thresholds.
“The goal of the team of experts at the Guthrie Cardiac and Vascular Center is to provide advanced clinical care to our patients so they can enjoy the best possible outcomes and live longer, healthier lives,” said Sporn. “As a Blue Distinction Center+ for Cardiac Care, we deliver on that commitment by continuously improving and investing in advanced technologies such as our hybrid operating room, which allows Guthrie to provide the latest in treatment options for even the most challenging cases.”
Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital’s hybrid operating room is a state-of-the-art operating room with real-time, high-resolution digital imaging capabilities allowing complex surgeries and studies to take place simultaneously with an integrated team of heart and valve specialists.
One of the advanced procedures available in Guthrie’s hybrid operating room is Transcather Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). TAVR is a minimally invasive valve replacement surgery for patients with severe aortic stenosis who are not candidates for standard surgical procedures.
