Guthrie Corning Hospital Recognized for Quality

Guthrie Corning Hospital was recently recognized through the 2016 Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Hospital Performance Incentive Program for delivering quality health outcomes for its patients.

The 2016 Excellus BCBS Hospital Performance Incentive Program evaluated participating hospitals on more than 244 performance measures. Guthrie Corning Hospital achieved 100 percent of the quality improvement targets in 2016.

“We are proud to offer high quality care in a wide variety of specialties to our patients,” said Garrett Hoover, President of Guthrie Corning Hospital, “This award highlights the work that we do to ensure our patients have optimal outcomes each time they visit us.”

The quality improvement incentive payments were distributed to participating hospitals based on these targeted areas:

  • Clinical Processes of Care – Focused on improvements in heart attack care, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care, and other measures that may be unique to each participating hospital
  • Patient Safety – Centered on reductions in hospital-acquired infections, falls, pressure ulcers, readmissions,  and other adverse events or errors that affect patient care
  • Patient Satisfaction – Used the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, which is the first national, standardized, publicly-reported survey of patients’ perspectives of hospital care

Guthrie Corning Hospital was last year given a four-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for quality ratings.
