Curriculum
Fellows will have both core learning experiences (teaching rounds during inpatient consultations, patient care during outpatient Hem-Onc clinics, and didactics), and elective learning experiences. Available electives: Radiation Oncology, Blood Bank/Coagulation, Bone Marrow Transplant (at the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute), Hematopathology, Chemotherapy Administration/Pharmacy, Clinical Research, and Palliative Care.
Rotation Schedule (months)
- First Year: Inpatient consults (5), Outpatient clinics (4), Elective (2)
- Second Year: Inpatient Consults (3), Outpatient Clinic (4), Community Hem-Onc Clinic (Corning or Cortland) (1), BMT (Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute) (1), Elective/Research (2)
- Third Year: Inpatient Consults (2), Outpatient Clinic (2), Research (1), Elective (6)
Clinical Duties
- Two half-day continuity clinics weekly (one half-day with benign hematology patients, and one half-day with solid oncology patients).
Didactics
- Hem-Onc lectures - once a week
- Five Tumor Boards - each once every 1-2 weeks
- Mortality & Morbidity meeting - once a month
- Board simulation sessions - once a month
- Journal Club – once a month
