What is COVID-19?

Coronavirus is a group of common viruses that cause respiratory illnesses. The new strain that causes COVID-19 is called SARS CoV2. COVID-19 symptoms can appear between two and 14 days after exposure.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Symptoms can be similar to a cold or flu: fever, cough and shortness of breath. These symptoms can be mild or severe.

How is COVID-19 spread?

This virus is spread like a cold or the flu:

  • Droplets traveling in the air through coughs or sneezes
  • Close personal contact, such as shaking hands
  • Touching an object with the virus on it

Who is most at risk for becoming severely ill?

Although anyone can contract COVID-19, severe cases are more likely in the elderly and people with existing health conditions such as heart disease, cancer or respiratory disease.

What should I do if I have symptoms?

Patients with severe symptoms who are in physical distress and need immediate attention should go to the nearest emergency department. Patients who are concerned about their exposure to COVID-19 or who have minor respiratory symptoms should call Guthrie Centralized Scheduling at 866-GUTHRIE (866-488-4743) between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Outside of these hours, call your Guthrie PCP office.
