- A one-week pass to Guthrie HealthWorks Wellness and Fitness Center in Painted Post or Lourdes Health and Fitness Center in Johnson City (Guardian consent required for participants under 18; must be 16 or older to use facilities without a guardian).

Presenters
Jeffrey T. Alwine, DO
Dr. Alwine is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He earned his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008 and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine, in 2013. He went on to complete a fellowship at the Orthopaedic Foundation with Plancher Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. Dr. Alwine's clinical interests include ACL injuries, adolescent sport injuries, arthroscopic knee, shoulder and hip surgery, sports medicine and platelet-rich plasma therapy.
Jessica Callear, MS, MSACN, ACSM-EP, CHC, NCSF-SNS
Jessica is a certified exercise physiologist, sport nutritionist and health coach with over 15 years of experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Scranton and two master’s degrees - one in Nutrition from Marywood University and another in Applied Clinical Nutrition from Northeast College of Health Sciences. Additionally, she is a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Medicine, a Certified Health Coach with the National Society of Health Coaches and a Sports Nutrition Specialist with the National Council on Strength and Fitness. Jessica sees patients at Guthrie Big Flats and Sayre weight loss centers.
Allison Cassani, PT
Allie is a physical therapist at Guthrie Corning Hospital. She has been in clinical practice since 2022 and has experience across a variety of settings, such as outpatient, acute care and home health. She holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from SUNY Geneseo and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Upstate Medical University.
Dexter R. Dale, DO, CAQSM
Dr. Dale is a family medicine and sports medicine physician with Guthrie. Originally from the Midwest, he graduated from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., with a degree in health sciences in 2012. He then attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, where he completed a dual-degree program, earning a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and a Master of Arts in bioethics in 2020. During medical school, Dr. Dale completed an undergraduate Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Teaching Fellowship, where he taught medical students basic primary care examination skills and osteopathic manipulative treatment. He went on to complete a family medicine residency at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, where he served as chief resident, and he spent an additional year at Rochester Regional Health completing sports medicine fellowship training. Dr. Dale is board-certified in family medicine and sports medicine. His areas of interest include non-operative sports medicine, ultrasound-guided procedures and evaluations, orthobiologic therapies, osteopathic manipulative treatment and resident and medical student education.
Tom Guyette, CSCS
Tom is an exercise physiologist at Guthrie HealthWorks with more than 20 years of experience. He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a concentration in fitness development from SUNY Cortland. A certified strength and conditioning coach, Tom serves as the sports performance coordinator at HealthWorks, where his primary responsibilities include personal training, strength and conditioning for athletes, wellness programs and group fitness classes. Tom also leads speed and agility clinics within the community.
Wendy Hoose
Yangmi Kang, PhD, ATC
Yangmi is an assistant professor at Ithaca College, where she teaches athletic training and exercise science. Originally from Osaka, Japan, she moved to the United States to attend the athletic training program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. One of Yangmi's favorite aspects of athletic training is celebrating athletes' milestones, whether winning a game or recovering from an injury. She is passionate about athletic training education because she enjoys helping students discover meaningful careers where they can make a positive impact on others.
Sara Merritt, PT, DPT, CLT
Sara is a physical therapist at Guthrie HealthWorks with more than 15 years of experience in orthopedics. She earned a bachelor's degree in biology from SUNY Geneseo and a doctorate in physical therapy from SUNY Upstate Medical University. Sara has completed numerous continuing education courses in sports medicine and advanced techniques, such as blood flow restriction training, advanced concepts of the throwing athlete with Kevin Wilk, rehabilitation of the Division I runner, The Movement System series with Claire Frank, and Kinesio taping.
Alexander Porter, DO, CAQSM
Dr. Porter is a family medicine and sports medicine physician dedicated to helping athletes of all ages stay healthy, perform their best and recover safely. Local to Sayre, he earned his undergraduate degree from Allegheny College and completed his medical education at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at Seton Hill. He trained in the Latrobe Family Medicine Residency Program and completed a sports medicine fellowship with WellSpan Sports Medicine in York, Pa. An avid runner and triathlete, Dr. Porter brings a personal commitment to evidence-based, athlete-centered care. He has a special interest in using musculoskeletal ultrasound to guide procedures and enhance diagnostic accuracy, and he regularly covers high school sporting events in the community. He serves as the team physician at Mansfield University, where he partners with student-athletes, coaches and athletic trainers to optimize health, performance and long-term well-being.
Angel Schoonover, MS, ATC, PTA
Angel, originally from Woodhull, N.Y., serves as the head athletic trainer for the SUNY Corning Red Barons and as a per diem athletic trainer for Guthrie Corning Hospital. She received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Houghton College in 2017, an associate degree as a physical therapist assistant from Penn State Mont Alto in 2019 and a Master of Athletic Training from Lock Haven University in 2022.
Jason Taylor, MS, LAT, ATC, CSCS, GTS
Jason is a certified athletic trainer with 10 years of experience at various levels, including four years in the college setting at Alfred State College and Binghamton University. He earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training from Ithaca College in 2016 and a master's degree in kinesiology from Western Illinois University in 2020. Jason is also a Graston Technique specialist and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
Natalie Thompson
Natalie is an adjunct professor at SUNY Corning Community College, where she has taught since 2016. Her courses include Introduction to Nutrition, Sports Nutrition and Stress Management. A certified dietitian nutritionist, she also works as a health coach and nutritionist at the University of Rochester Medicine Center for Employee Wellness. Natalie is passionate about healthy living and enjoys sharing information and ideas through teaching and coaching.
