Guthrie HealthWorks Announces Member of the Year

Guthrie HealthWorks Wellness & Fitness Center is pleased to announce Melanie Beardslee of Campbell, N.Y. as the 2015 Member of the Year. This award is given out annually to a member who has stood out for their motivation and commitment to living an active, healthy lifestyle.

Ms. Beardslee, a HealthWorks member with rheumatoid arthritis, received nominations from fellow members and staff, and was recognized for her dedicated efforts to improving her health. Rheumatoid arthritis affects the joints by causing pain and muscular atrophy. As the disease progresses, it can limit movement and compromise immune system.

Ms. Beardslee credits her focused training at HealthWorks with improving her health, and holding back the progress of the disease: “I discovered that the more I moved, the more I could move. My progress with my rheumatoid arthritis has amazed my doctors, my family and myself, and I credit my personal trainer and the range of classes at HealthWorks with helping me to stay ahead of the disease.

“It is an honor to be given this award. There are so many people who inspire me at HealthWorks, from the trainers, to the support staff, to the other members who all have such amazing stories. I feel blessed to have HealthWorks here for me.”

Guthrie HealthWorks Wellness & Fitness Center was developed to promote wellness, health education, clinical rehabilitation services and fitness. The 45,000-square-foot, advanced facility is staffed by a professional, credentialed team that provides guidance and coaching to individuals working on personal fitness conditioning, health enhancement, injury recovery, lifestyle improvement and disease management.

“Honoring an inspirational Member of the Year is a great opportunity to showcase the benefits of living a fit and active lifestyle,” said Jennifer Yartym, Director of Guthrie HealthWorks and Rehabilitation Services. “At HealthWorks, we are privileged to help individuals work toward and reach their personal fitness goals. Melanie is an inspiration to us all.”
