Dr. Matthew Novak, chief of the nephrology department and internal medicine residency program director at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., has been named to the Pennsylvania Top 40 Physicians Under 40 list by the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED).
“We are proud to have one of the state’s best young physicians leading our nephrology department at Guthrie,” said Dr. Michael Scalzone, Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs for the Guthrie Medical Group. “Dr. Novak’s work allows Guthrie to provide top notch care and comprehensive services to patients suffering from chronic kidney disease.”
This designation means that Dr. Novak is among 42 physicians identified in Pennsylvania who have demonstrated a significant amount of success for someone so early in their medical career. Those selected were chosen by a committee of physicians after being nominated for outstanding contributions to the practice of medicine and the delivery of patient care, despite being early in their medical careers.
“These 42 physicians under 40 are trailblazers who are redefining the way we see health care,” says Dr. Scott Shapiro, PAMED. “In a state like Pennsylvania, the young talent we have throughout the health care spectrum is outstanding, but these 42 individuals are going to be the ones to watch in upcoming years.”
According to Dr. Shapiro this new award is one of several efforts by his organization to recognize the special place Pennsylvania has in training physicians and also to encourage physicians to stay and practice in Pennsylvania.
