Guthrie Awards $28K to Support Local Mental Health and Recovery Programs

June 11, 2025

In a strong showing of support for behavioral health initiatives, The Guthrie Clinic has awarded $28,000 in community benefit grants to three local nonprofits working to transform lives across the region. These strategic grants will expand access to vital mental health services and recovery programs for community members in need.

The funding, distributed through Guthrie's Community Benefit Grant Program, addresses critical regional needs.

The following grants were awarded in May:

  • Abuse and Rape Crisis Center (Towanda, PA.): $20,000 to improve access to mental health care for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Bradford County. The funding will eliminate transportation and financial barriers, ensuring more individuals receive timely, trauma-informed care.

  • Secure Better Living Inc. (Groton, N.Y.): $3,000 to strengthen the Pathways to Recovery program, which addresses mental health and substance use disorders through peer support, guidance and comprehensive recovery resources in the Ithaca area.

  • Cortland ReUse (Cortland, N.Y.): $5,000 to expand the ReStart Initiative, which helps people in substance recovery build career paths through professional development opportunities.

These investments align with priorities identified in Guthrie's Community Health Needs Assessment. This assessment, required every three years by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, guides our community support efforts. Guthrie currently focuses on addressing mental health and substance use disorders, obesity, and cancer screening and prevention.
