Stacy Pond - Program Director

Welcome from the Program Director

Welcome to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital’s School of Medical Laboratory Science! Thank you for your interest in our program. Laboratory medicine is a critical component of the healthcare team. I was first attracted to the career because it allowed me to serve others through science. I’ve been working in the lab since 2009 and have spent time as a generalist, microbiologist, Supervisor, Manager and Administrative Director. Now, I have the esteemed honor of mentoring students. I am passionate about teaching and committed to seeing our students succeed. Our program provides learning opportunities in core subjects as well as offering additional experiences to develop well rounded professionals. The field continues to evolve and integrate different aspects of science into the diagnostic algorithms of medicine. We look forward to supporting your learning journey and advancing your skills as laboratory professionals!

“The MLS program at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital provided me the necessary training, knowledge and skills to have a solid foundation going into the laboratory from day one. The program encouraged me to think critically in several aspects, like interpretation of laboratory results, troubleshooting and quality control. From the core hematology and chemistry routines to identification of antibodies in blood bank, examining bacterial and fungal colonies and anything in between, you’ll go through the process step-by-step with others in the field. The Guthrie MLS program equips you to work in a variety of settings.”
