Dr. John Pamula was recently invited to present at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) 2019 Annual Education Conference in Orlando, Fla.
Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is proud to announce that the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education has approved initial accreditation status for two new physician training programs. Guthrie will be launching an Emergency Medicine residency in July 2019, and a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship in July 2020.
Dr. Safi Khan (Internal Medicine, 18) is part of a team that examined six prestigious medical journals and identified positive spin in how they portrayed cardiovascular trials. Dr. Khan is currently an assistant professor at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Great Job Dr. Khan.
Congrats to the Spring Guthrie Scholar Class of 2019. The Guthrie Scholar program graduated five scholars during a recent research luncheon. Morgan Novakovich, Ana Rahman, Zoya Rahman, Isaiah Pinkerton, and Tj Annesi all presented their research that they composed this semester.
Congratulations to Internal Medicine Resident Dr. Subash Ghimire and Family Medicine Resident Dr. Zachary Dewar, recipients of the Dr. Robert E. Cohen Professionalism Award. The award is given to a resident or fellow who exemplifies professionalism and excellence in all aspects of patient care and interactions with staff and colleagues.
Each May, as warmer weather approaches, Guthrie Cancer Services offers a free skin cancer screening. This year’s screening was held on Monday, May 6 and was made possible by Internal Medicine and Family Medicine residents and a provider from Surgical Oncology. 109 patients were screened during the event and 78 were referred for follow-up within Family Medicine, Plastic Surgery or General Surgery.
Senior residents from the General Surgery Residency participated in a Regional Mock Oral Exam Program hosted by Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, located in Hershey, PA on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Residents and faculty from six different programs attended this event. Those programs included Guthrie, Geisinger (Danville & Wilkes-Barre), Hershey, Pinnacle (Harrisburg) and York.
Dr. Lawrence Sampson has been chosen to replace Dr. Thomas VanderMeer as regional associate dean for the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine regional Guthrie Campus. Dr. Sampson currently serves as chief of vascular surgery. During his over twenty years at Guthrie, Dr.
