Guthrie Receives Accreditation from College of American Pathologists
The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to Guthrie Medical Group Laboratory in Sayre, Pa. based on results of a recent on-site inspection.
Chief Medical Director, Hani Hojjati, MD, said, “This great accomplishment is in keeping with our ultimate goal: providing excellent patient care. It all became possible due to dedication and commitment of our outstanding team at the department of pathology and laboratory medicine.”
George Deratany, VP Laboratory Services, said, “This is a wonderful accomplishment for the laboratory. All the laboratory leadership and staff members put in countless hours to prepare the lab to achieve CAP accreditation. It’s an honor to be part of the CAP-accredited facilities.”
The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program. Guthrie Medical Group Laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
