Guthrie Offers Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Program

April 26, 2019

A unique opportunity for upcoming graduate nurses, Guthrie’s year-long Nurse Residency Program educates and supports newly licensed registered nurses through the transition from student to professional RN.

The Newly Licensed Registered Nurse (NLRN) program gives nurses the skills and experience to succeed in the nursing profession by providing an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and debrief on challenges and successes. Throughout the program, nurses participate in a variety of learning experiences including a two-week comprehensive Nursing Orientation to Guthrie in the classroom/Skills Lab setting, hands-on experience through clinical rotations on various patient care units and Continuing Orientation in Nursing (COIN) Program Sessions every 4-6 weeks during the program.

Nurses that participate in the program receive full salary and benefits, paid time off (PTO) and have dedicated preceptors and educators for guidance and support throughout the program. After successful completion of the residency program, the nurse will be matched to a specific unit based on their interest and work style.

Guthrie is accepting applications for the Nurse Residency Program from qualified individuals who have:

  • Completed a nursing degree (diploma, associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree) from an accredited nursing program prior to the employment start date. Nurses that have not obtained a BSN degree will need to obtain it within five years from hire but must be enrolled into the program within one year.
  • Successfully completed the NCLEX exam. Senior nursing students are eligible to apply before taking the exam but if offered a position in the program, offers are contingent on passing the NCLEX.
  • Possess an active nursing license in Pennsylvania and/or New York state (based on Guthrie location) prior to the employment start date in the Nurse Residency Program.

Applications are being accepted for the July 2019 Residency for Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital and Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital programs until July 1. The July 2019 Residency Program will begin July 15, 2019.
