November 17, 2025

Guthrie Lourdes Hospital officially launched its yearlong 100th anniversary celebration this past weekend, marking a century of compassionate care while outlining its strategic vision for the next era of healthcare in the Southern Tier.

The milestone celebration kicked off with a formal news conference and reception on Friday, followed by a festive community open house on Saturday, Nov. 15, successfully blending tradition and innovation.

The news conference on Friday featured hospital leadership and local public officials. Speakers underscored the institution's enduring history since its founding in 1925 and its continuous evolution to meet the region's changing healthcare needs.

Leadership emphasized a commitment to strategic investments and advancements in technology and specialized services, ensuring the facility remains a leading provider of regional healthcare well into the future.

Dr. Edmund Sabanegh, President and CEO of Guthrie:

"When Lourdes Hospital joined the Guthrie family, it represented an extraordinary opportunity to preserve and strengthen a century of high-quality care. For 100 years, Lourdes has been a place of hope, healing and compassion — and together, we're ensuring this legacy continues. As we look toward the next 100 years, Guthrie is honored to ensure that excellent, compassionate care remains here for good."

Kathy Connerton, SVP and President of Guthrie Lourdes Hospital

"Look around — this is what 100 years of community care looks like: generations of families who've trusted us with their most precious moments. From 1925 to today, our caregivers have shared one purpose, a call to service, and you are the living legacy of those four sisters who believed Binghamton deserved better. As we celebrate 100 years and look forward to the next century with Guthrie, we're ensuring that the mission to provide exceptional care for all people will continue for generations to come."

New York state Sen. Lea Webb, who was unable to attend Friday, shared a statement honoring Lourdes' century of care:

"For 100 years, Guthrie Lourdes Hospital has been a pillar of care and compassion in the Binghamton community. This centennial celebration is a testament to Lourdes' enduring impact on the health and well-being of generations of patients and families."

The weekend celebrations included a special community celebration at the hospital on Saturday, which offered local families and caregivers a special opportunity to connect and celebrate.

Attendees enjoyed a festive atmosphere featuring live music, family-friendly activities, vendors and anniversary cake, underscoring the hospital's deep roots and appreciation for its community support.
