Guthrie Hosts Community Benefit Brunch for Grant Recipients

Guthrie recently recognized 13 community organizations for their work improving health and well-being across the region during a Donald Guthrie Community Benefit Grant Program celebration.

The grant program, administered through the Donald Guthrie Foundation, supports nonprofit organizations that address pressing community health needs and improve quality of life for residents throughout Guthrie's service area. The program reflects the vision established by Dr. Donald Guthrie in 1944 to enhance the lives of patients and communities through meaningful programs and services.

"Since Dr. Donald Guthrie established the foundation more than 80 years ago, our mission has remained centered on improving the lives of those we serve," said Paul VerValin, EVP and Chief Operating Officer at Guthrie. "The work being done by today's grant recipients carries that mission forward by expanding access to essential services and strengthening the health of our communities."

Organizations recognized through this year's Community Benefit Grant Program are:

  • Horseheads Family Resource Center
  • CHOP Out Hunger
  • The Sisters of Hope
  • The Children's House Child Advocacy Center
  • Endless Mountain Mission Center
  • Children's Advocacy Center of NEPA
  • Corning Family YMCA
  • Neighborhood Transformation Center
  • Supporting Area Families Everyday (SAFE)
  • Samaritan Counseling Center of the Southern Tier
  • Seven Valleys Health Coalition
  • Wyoming County Community Health Foundation

During the event, Guthrie leaders highlighted the health system's longstanding commitment to supporting the communities it serves. Last year, Guthrie provided $193 million in charity care, underscoring its dedication to improving access to care and supporting those in need.

The Donald Guthrie Community Benefit Grant Program helps fund initiatives that address a wide range of health and social needs, from food security and behavioral health services to child advocacy, family support and community wellness programs.

Community Benefit Committee members, who represent communities across Guthrie's 11,000-square-mile service area, volunteer their time to help identify and support projects that address local needs and create lasting impact throughout the region.

Through partnerships with organizations like this year's recipients, Guthrie continues to invest in programs that strengthen communities, improve health outcomes and build a healthier future for the people of Northern Pennsylvania and the Southern Tier of New York.
