Guthrie to host 'Saved by the Scan' lung cancer screening event

November 3, 2025

In recognition of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Guthrie is hosting a "Saved by the Scan" event to provide potentially life-saving lung cancer screenings for high-risk community members.

According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in America. Screening is used to detect lung cancer early, when it is more likely to be curable.

If lung cancer is caught before it spreads, the likelihood of surviving five years or more improves to 65%.

The screening event will take place Thursday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., in the second-level Radiation Department.

Guthrie encourages all eligible community members to take advantage of this important early detection opportunity.

Registration is required. To sign up for the event, visit guthrie.org/classes-events/saved-scan
