Guthrie Hospitals Recognized for Labor and Delivery
The labor and delivery teams at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and Guthrie Corning Hospital have been recognized by Healthgrades, the leading resource consumers use to find a hospital or doctor.
Guthrie Cortland Medical Center (GCMC) is a five-star recipient for c-section and vaginal deliveries. GCMC has maintained the five-star for vaginal delivery for nine consecutive years and c-section delivery for two consecutive years.
Guthrie Corning Hospital is a five-star recipient for c-section delivery, an award it has maintained for a fourth consecutive year.
“Quality and safety have been our true north for our labor and delivery units,” said J. Manuel Arreguin, MD, MBA, FACOG, Obstetrics and Gynecology System and Department Chair, The Guthrie Clinic. “At Cortland, we are pleased to see our new group of midwives and newest Cortland-specific OBGYN continue to promote this culture. We look forward to expanding our services at Cortland with this superb, award-winning team. We want all our mothers and their unborn babies to rest assured that we provide the highest level of quality and safe care-- every hour, every day, year-round.”
These five-star distinctions reflect their commitment to consistently delivering the best care possible, placing both hospitals in the upper echelon of hospitals for labor and delivery care nationwide. This award is based on patient outcomes. Patients treated at five-star rated hospitals for c-section delivery have, on average, a 60.4% lower risk of a complication than if treated at a one-star rated facility.
“Healthgrades congratulates Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and Guthrie Corning Hospital for being national leaders and demonstrating a deep commitment to providing high quality care to all patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “As health systems nationwide endeavor to elevate their quality of care, these elite facilities provide a roadmap for success.”
