Guthrie Cortland Medical Center Unveils Veterans Monument

In advance of Memorial Day, Guthrie was proud to unveil a Veterans Monument on the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center campus Friday. The monument, dedicated by the Guthrie Veterans Committee, is the physical embodiment of the service and sacrifice of veterans — both past and present — while demonstrating Guthrie's ongoing commitment to supporting those who have served our country.
Located in the circle outside the main entrance of the hospital, the monument is a focal point of the campus. “We hope people will come by and make this a space to reflect on all that our veterans have done for us,” said Jennifer Yartym, Guthrie Cortland Medical Center President. “It is a show of respect for the men and women in our community who have worn the uniform, and for those who are now part of the Guthrie family.”
A special thank you to Visions Federal Credit Union, for its generous donation to Cortland Memorial Foundation in support of the monument, which was officially unveiled by two Guthrie caregivers who are veterans. The Vietnam Veterans of America Color Guard also participated in the ceremony, as well as Ralph Dudgeon from the Cortland Rotary, who sounded taps.
Guthrie is committed to providing the care our veterans need and deserve. For more information about veteran resources and patient assistance, visit www.guthrie.org/veterans.
A Remembrance Garden was also unveiled Friday, in memory of Dan McNeil Jr. and Rose Valentine McNeil. It is a gift from Cortland Memorial Foundation as a thank you for many years of support from the McNeil Family.
Additional thanks to Joe Bowers and Dennis Totman from Perkins Funeral Home and the Dryden Monument Company for the beautiful stone in the garden, and Shaw and Boehler Florist for the gift of roses and a rose tree in memory of Dan and Rose.
