Guthrie Clinic Earns 27 National Recognitions for Clinical Excellence from Healthgrades

October 28, 2025

The Guthrie Clinic has been recognized for outstanding clinical quality, earning 27 specialty awards and ratings from Healthgrades for 2026.

The achievements, announced by the leading resource Americans use to find a doctor or hospital, highlight a deep commitment to clinical excellence across the system.

The 2026 awards showcase exceptional performance in outpatient and inpatient specialty care at Guthrie hospitals:

  • Guthrie Lourdes Hospital ranked No. 1 in New York for surgical care. The hospital ranked No. 3 in New York for orthopedic surgery and No. 4 for joint replacement, and achieved national recognition with the Surgical Care Excellence Award (top 5% in the nation) and as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery and Joint Replacement. It also received five-star ratings for total knee and hip replacement, spinal fusion, hip fracture treatment, stroke care, sepsis treatment, pneumonia care and bowel obstruction treatment.
  • Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital received the Healthgrades Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award and the Outpatient Joint Replacement Excellence Award for the second consecutive year, placing it among the top 5% in the nation. The hospital also earned five-star ratings for outpatient total knee and total hip replacement and for hip fracture treatment.
  • Guthrie Corning Hospital earned a five-star rating for treatment of pulmonary embolism for the third consecutive year and a five-star rating for treatment of respiratory failure.
  • Guthrie Cortland Medical Center earned a five-star rating for stroke treatment for the second consecutive year and a five-star rating for bowel obstruction treatment.

Guthrie hospitals' achievements are based on what matters most: patient outcomes. Each year, Healthgrades evaluates risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for more than 30 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide.

The analysis identifies top hospitals in key specialty areas, empowering patients with clear, objective measures of hospital performance.

As performance gaps persist between the nation's highest- and lowest-achieving facilities, seeking care at a top program has never been more important.

Healthgrades' 2026 analysis revealed that if all hospitals performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2022-2024 study period, an average of 230,466 lives could have been saved and 156,797 complications could have been avoided.*

"Healthgrades' specialty awards identify the nation's top-performing hospitals in key service areas, helping consumers find high-quality care tailored to their specific needs," said Alana Biggers, M.D., M.P.H., medical advisor at Healthgrades. "We're proud to recognize Guthrie for its consistently superior outcomes across multiple specialty areas."
