Guthrie Celebrates Health Care Week with Mural Unveiling

As part of Guthrie Health Care Week, May 13 – 17, Guthrie Cortland Medical Center unveiled a new mural in their Café Courtyard.

The mural, created by local artist, Molly Reagan, connects the long history of the hospital in Cortland with Guthrie’s equally rich history and commitment to high quality health care for the community.

The story told by the mural begins with the opening of the original Cortland Hospital in 1891 to the Guthrie affiliation in January of 2019, the opening of the Renzi Cancer Center and the vision for the future with major advancements in technology including Guthrie’s award-winning Pulse Center.

“What better way to showcase our caregivers and what they do each day to provide the highest quality care,” said Jennifer Yartym, Guthrie Cortland Medical Center. “This is a bold, enduring picture of our commitment to deliver the comfort of a community hospital with the resources and investment of a large, integrated health care system equipped with the technology to keep building on the services we provide for years to come.”

The mural will serve as the centerpiece for visitors and caregivers who dine in the facility, offering an incredible outdoor eating experience. It also marks the first major step toward what will be expanded hours and options at the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center Café, along with a new look to enhance the overall experience for anyone who comes through the doors.

“I love telling stories with my art, and both Cortland and Guthrie have a deep history of quality health care to tell,” said Molly Reagan, Artist, Good Neighbor Art. “It was so much fun to work with Guthrie Cortland Medical Center leaders to create a shared vision.”

Molly was joined by her sixth-grade students and her uncle, Patrick Reagan, a Guthrie caregiver in our Environmental Health Services Department, who also worked on the mural.
