Guthrie Announces Naming of The Newman W. Benson Acute Rehabilitation Unit At Robert Packer Hospital, Towanda Campus

June 22, 2021

Today, Guthrie announced the naming of the Newman W. Benson Acute Rehabilitation Unit, a 15-bed inpatient rehabilitation center at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, Towanda Campus. The unit is named to honor the late Newman W. Benson and Patricia A. Benson’s generosity and longtime support of Guthrie.

Dr. Joseph Scopelliti, President and CEO, Guthrie said, “For those who had the good fortune to get to know Newman Benson, you know that he had a deep and unwavering commitment to physical health. He was an avid athlete and competitor. And he spent many years working to make this community a better place to live. This center embodies both of those commitments from Newman and I know he would be proud to have this new center bear his name. We thank his wife Patricia for her generous donation that will help so many patients within the community live happier and healthier lives.”

The Newman W. Benson Acute Rehabilitation Unit will open later this month and will provide access to specialized acute rehabilitation services for patients who have experienced the debilitating effects of an injury or illness. The 14,000 square foot space will be outfitted with the latest technology and advanced equipment to enhance the delivery of personalized rehabilitation treatment plans. The community is invited to tour the new unit during an open house on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, Towanda Campus, 91 Hospital Drive, Towanda.
