Guthrie and Cortland Regional Finalize Affiliation

January 10, 2019

Today, Guthrie and Cortland Regional Medical Center (CRMC) announced their affiliation at a ceremony in Cortland. With this affiliation, Cortland Regional Medical Center becomes Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, an entity of The Guthrie Clinic.

Mark Webster, President of the new Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, said “Our patients and the community we serve were at the heart of this decision. This affiliation is an exciting opportunity for our community, with more integrated care within the Guthrie network and additional services brought to the Cortland community. Patients at our hospital will receive the excellent care which they have grown to expect and will now also be able to access a wider range of services through one coordinated care system.”

Guthrie President and CEO Joseph Scopelliti, MD, said “Our shared understanding of the challenges of delivering healthcare in a rural setting have made the partnership between Guthrie and Cortland Regional a logical step in furthering both organizations’ commitment to providing reliable, local access to quality care for all populations.”

CRMC’s Collaboration Task Force spent over 20 months working toward the identification of a preferred partner through a careful review of competitive proposals. Guthrie was selected due to its strategic and financial commitment to preserving and expanding access to high-quality healthcare services in Cortland. In September 2017, Cortland Regional Medical Center and Guthrie announced the signing of a letter of intent that outlined plans to move toward an affiliation agreement. The New York State Department of Public Health and the Public Health and Health Planning Council approved the affiliation between Guthrie and CRMC on October 12, 2018.

During today’s event, new Guthrie Cortland Medical Center signage was unveiled and hospital employees enjoyed special activities welcoming them into the Guthrie family. Guthrie Cortland Medical Center will continue to operate its open staffing model so all providers in the community can work together to provide care needed by the community. Local leadership will continue to manage and operate Cortland facilities and programs.
