Eagle Scout Candidate Creates Care Kits for Guthrie Cancer Center
Guthrie is extremely thankful for the incredible, heartfelt work of a local Eagle Scout candidate to benefit our cancer patients. Andrew Quattrini orchestrated the creation of 72 care kits designed specifically for new chemotherapy patients at the Guthrie Cancer Center in Sayre.
Each care kit, assembled with the help of local businesses and volunteers, includes essential items such as blankets, earbuds, fidget toys, hand sanitizer, lip balm, wipes, lotion, a journal, a hat, candy, and a special Jenga block featuring encouraging notes from students at Epiphany School.
Andrew's initiative not only exemplifies his commitment to community service but also honors a personal connection to the Guthrie Cancer Center. Inspired by his grandmother, Nancy Quattrini, a beloved oncology nurse at Guthrie for more than 20 years, Andrew chose this project to honor her memory and support current patients in their fight against cancer.
Throughout the project, Andrew collaborated with several local entities, including the students and student athletes of Sayre and Athens High Schools, Alliger's House of Wings in Sayre, Pa, Broad Street Pub in Waverly, NY, and Walmart in Sayre, Pa. His father, Peter Quattrini, Scout Master of the troop, and mother Brenda, a teacher at Epiphany School, played integral roles in coordinating and facilitating community involvement.
On delivery day, Andrew was joined by fellow Eagle Scout candidates and troop members, including Dominic Mills, Gareg Thurston, and Austin Quattrini, as they presented the care kits to the grateful staff at the Guthrie Cancer Center. The heartfelt gesture touched the hearts of both patients and caregivers alike, providing comfort and support during a challenging time.
