Donald Guthrie Foundation Celebrates Community Organizations Working to Improve Health Conditions

Community has been at the core of The Guthrie Clinic’s mission as a health care system since Dr. Donald Guthrie’s arrival in the region in 1910. In 1944, Dr. Guthrie established the Donald Guthrie Foundation, creating a lasting legacy that continues to enhance the lives of community members through impactful, high-quality programs.

In the latest fiscal year, Guthrie charity care totaled more than $132 million. A key component of this mission is the Guthrie Community Benefit Grant program, which empowers community partners to promote health and well-being across the region. This year’s grants, totaling $75,000, support initiatives that align with Guthrie’s Community Health Assessment Survey, addressing the most critical health challenges identified by our community.

Today, we proudly celebrated the latest grant recipients, recognizing their shared commitment to community health and highlighting the transformative programs and services they provide to improve lives throughout our region.

“I'm struck by the diversity of their approaches and the common thread that connects these organizations — their commitment to ensuring that no one in our rural communities faces health challenges alone,” said Dr. Edmund Sabanegh, President and CEO, The Guthrie Clinic. “Their work proves something important: rural communities aren't defined by what they lack, but by their ability to care for each other. They have created solutions that are innovative, sustainable, and deeply connected to the people they serve.”

  • Seven Valleys Health Coalition
  • The Potter’s Hands Foundation
