A passing raincloud couldn’t drench the spirits of golfers at the Cortland Memorial Foundation's 23rd annual Golf Classic, which raised more than $67,000 that will be directed toward patient care at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.

The event, held Aug. 10 at the Cortland Country Club, brought together 68 golfers and community supporters for a day dedicated to comraderie, friendly competition and most importantly: support of local healthcare. Proceeds from the tournament will directly fund the purchase of advanced medical equipment and support programs that enhance patient care, promote health education and improve the quality of life in the region.

Golfers had to hunker in their carts or under umbrellas on the course briefly during a mid-afternoon shower, but the cell moved by quickly and allowed play to resume.

“A bit of heavy rain can’t stop the generosity of the Cortland community in support of this event,” said Sheila Ossit, Director of the Cortland Memorial Foundation. “It’s the Foundation’s largest fundraiser for a reason, and it’s thanks to all our friends and vendors with which we partner that Guthrie Cortland can provide the highest quality care and services to our patients.”

Since its inception in 2004, the CMF Golf Classic has become a cornerstone of community support for the hospital, raising nearly $1.5 million for vital programs and initiatives.

The Foundation extends its gratitude to the top corporate sponsors: Kinney Drugs Foundation/Health Direct/Noble Health Services, McNeil Development Company LLC, Neuman Hayden & Ames Attorneys, Strategic Financial Services Inc., US Acute Care Solutions, Welliver and Xanitos.

Foundation Board Chair Bradley Totman emceed the event. He was joined by fellow CMF board members Marisa Clifford, DMD, Rex Gido, MD, Steve Wineburg, Mary Ellen Bloodgood and Marie Darling.

The 24th annual Cortland Memorial Foundation Golf Classic is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 9, 2027.
