Camp Sensation Offers Fun Experience for Children with Special Needs
Children with special needs and their siblings will once again be able to enjoy a fun, supportive camp experience with their peers during Guthrie’s Camp Sensation this summer.
This annual day camp for children age 4 and up helps kids build motor, language, socialization and play skills. While the team includes occupational, physical and speech-language therapists, the camp does not serve as a therapy program.
Rather, Camp Sensation offers children opportunities for social interaction in a supportive environment surrounded by their peers, which can lead to increased confidence and independence, improved play skills and preparedness for mainstream camps or other community-based experiences.
Camp Sensation will be held Monday, Aug. 3 through Thursday, Aug. 6 at the Towanda Area Elementary School, 420 State St. in Towanda, Pa.
For ages 6 and up:
- Monday-Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (full day)
- Thursday: 9 a.m. to noon (half day)
For ages 4 and 5:
- Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. to noon (half day only)
Each camper is encouraged to bring one or more siblings age 4 or older. Campers and their siblings will have the opportunity to work together and separately on different activities. To promote positive interactions during activities, children without special needs will be given guidance about understanding and helping those with special needs.
