Job Shadowing

Guthrie welcomes those thinking about a career in healthcare, or in another related discipline. Observers get the opportunity to learn more from our trained and knowledgeable staff, while in a role which has no hands-on, direct contact with patients.

Those who choose to shadow at Guthrie do so for a specified period of time, in a clinical or non-clinical setting. This role does not involve a service commitment or salary and is non-accredited.

Those wishing to shadow need secure a preceptor/provider to shadow on their own. Students that are looking for clinical shadowing opportunities can use the Find a Provider section of the Guthrie.org website.  The observer shadows a supervisor of their choosing and the shadower has no responsibility for the patient.

Once you have secured a preceptor to shadow you need to place a request at the link below, no later than 60 days in advance of your start date, so that you can be onboarded for your experience at Guthrie.

If you have any other questions about job shadowing and onboarding, please contact Ann Andrada @ ann.andrada@guthrie.org for Guthrie Legacy Sites and Jennifer Gates @ jennifer.gates.org for Lourdes Hospital and Binghamton area locations.

Please note that high school students must be 16 years of age or older to shadow.
