At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. List the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and describe the major clinical features of the major Anxiety Disorders: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Separation Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Specific Phobia, Substance-Induced Anxiety Disorders, and Anxiety Disorders Due to Other Medical Conditions.
  2. Identify the four components of anxiety and describe their involvement in the symptomatology of the major anxiety disorders.
  3. Describe how to screen patients for each of the major anxiety disorders, using validated probe and follow-up questions derived from standardized diagnostic interviews.
  4. Describe the evidence-based treatment modalities that have been found to be effective for each of the major anxiety disorders.
