Grief and Guilt: Coping with Nursing Home Placement of your Loved One
134 Homer Ave
Assembly room on first floor
Cortland, NY 13045
It can be a time of difficult decisions when someone moves to a Residential Care Facility either in the rehabilitation unit as a patient or for longer term care in the nursing home.
Guthrie Cortland Medical Center and Guthrie Cortland Nursing and Residential Care Center (GCNRC) are offering a drop-in discussion group two Saturdays in April. We will share and discuss how to deal with the transitional changes of your loved ones who are, or might soon be, patients or residents of GCNRC.
This drop-in group will cover such concerns as:
- “I had promised my wife I would never leave her in a nursing home. How do I live with the regret that I had to break my promise?”
- “My brother took care of us and loved being an uncle. Now he has dementia and he doesn’t know my kids. It’s hard to see him decline.”
- “My Dad was always so independent, and he loves his farm. Now he won’t be able to go back and so we have to find a place for him to live in. It’s such a big loss and change for all of us.”
No registration or fees involved.
Group facilitated by Kate O’Neal, Certified Grief Counselor. Kate can be reached at kate.oneal@guthrie.org.
