Course Description
Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO®) is an evidence-based, interprofessional, multidisciplinary training program that equips the entire pregnancy care team with skills to effectively manage obstetric emergencies. This comprehensive course encourages a standardized team-based approach among physicians, residents, nurse midwives, registered nurses and other members of the pregnancy care team to improve patient safety and positively affect maternal outcomes. The course format is a blended classroom, which allows learners to work at their own pace to complete the online course portion prior to the live course skills assessment portion.
Target Audience
This course is directed primarily toward maternity care providers including physicians, nurses, and certified nurse midwives.

Course Objectives
At the successful completion of the ALSO Course, participants should be able to:
- Discuss methods of managing pregnancy and birth urgencies and emergencies, which standardizes the skills of practicing pregnancy care providers.
- Demonstrate content and skill acquisition as evidenced by successful completion of course examination, skills workstations, and group testing stations.

Online Course & Preparation
Learners will be provided with an email with a link to the online portion of the ALSO Provider Course. Content consists of a pre-test; recorded lectures; online case studies; recorded workstation demonstrations; post-test; and a course evaluation. Upon completion of the evaluation, the learners must CLAIM CREDIT to show as “Complete” in the Sponsor’s (UNM CPL) Course Dashboard and to qualify to attend the Live Course. The Online Portion of the course must be completed no later than 48 hours prior to the live course. You will be able to download the presentation content and chapters for further review, printing or future reference.

All registrations will be confirmed by email, and it will include the date and time of the class, a map showing the location of the class and parking, and further steps to complete the pre-course work. If you have not received your confirmation email, you may contact the course coordinator at 570-887-6523 to confirm your registration. Please confirm your registration prior to making any travel arrangements. Payment may be made by check or credit card. SASI does not maintain a petty cash fund. Cash payments must be made in the exact amount. SASI does not accept POs or faxed registrations with credit card information.

Cancellation
If you pre-register and cannot attend, Guthrie will refund tuition, less $190.00 ($40.00 administrative fee and $150.00 Online Access fee), provided it is received in writing via email on or before 10 business day prior to the course date. No refunds will be issued after this time or for non-attendance. Classes are subject to cancellation. In the event this class is canceled, Guthrie is not responsible for any airfare, hotel or other costs incurred by participants.
Course Location
This course will be held on Guthrie Sayre campus in the Simulation & Advanced Skills Institute located on the 2nd floor of the Robert Packer Hospital. A map will be emailed to you with your registration confirmation.
CME Information
An application for CME credit is filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians prior to each course offered. We request 8 CME credits for each course listed.
