Guthrie Cancer Center is now offering prostate seed implants as an alternative, non-surgical treatment for patients diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Guthrie’s Community Benefit Grant Program has awarded $10,000 to support the continued efforts of the Diahoga Trail Project, managed by the non-profit organization Futurescapes. The funds will be used for costs associated with the construction of a large trail system that will connect the Sayre and Athens communities along the Susquehanna River.
Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in ultrasound by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for gynecological and general ultrasound services.
“We are proud of the high quality service the Radiology Team at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital provides. This accreditation is evidence of the excellent care patients receive here,” said Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital President, Staci Covey.
Guthrie has awarded a total of 13 scholarships to local students as part of its 42nd Annual Health Professions and Employee Scholarship Program.
Four scholarships were issued to children of Guthrie employees with no restrictions on academic career interest, while the remaining nine scholarships were issued to students throughout the region whose academic endeavors will be directly related to health care. All students will receive $650 a year for four years for undergraduate studies.

Guthrie is pleased to welcome Samim Chalabi, MD back to the Towanda area. Dr. Chalabi, a board certified general surgeon, has now begun seeing patients at the Guthrie Pratt Ave. building on the Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital campus, and will be performing procedures at the hospital.

Karen L. Woolaway, AuD is an audiologist with clinical interests in balance, hearing loss, and vertigo. She received her Doctor of Audiology degree from A.T.
