Guthrie Post-Concussion Support Group to Meet - Jan. 13
The Guthrie Post-Concussion Support Group will hold a meeting on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. in the 4 Blue Conference Room located on the fourth floor of the Guthrie Medical Group in Sayre, Pa.
The meeting will feature guest speaker Amber Thomas from Rochester, N.Y. She graduated from Bryant University in May 2018 where she majored in biology and psychology and played soccer. During her senior year, Amber conducted a research study on concussions and emotion. As an athlete who has played soccer since age 5, she also suffered more than one concussion. The most recent one was last September, and it caused her to miss part of her senior soccer season. She now works as a clinical research assistant for the Spaulding-Harvard Traumatic Brain Injury Model system. In the future, she would like to become a neuropsychologist, specializing in brain injury. Amber plans to discuss the results of her research study, share more of her story, and point out some helpful resources.
The Guthrie Post-Concussion Support Group features speakers who share their personal journeys in dealing with sports related post-concussion syndrome. The group is free and open to community members who have suffered a concussion and their families.
