Guthrie Offers Residential Water Testing

December 7, 2018

Guthrie now offers coliform and E coli bacteria water testing for residential properties.

Homeowners using cisterns, wells and springs for water should get their water tested regularly to be sure it’s safe to drink. Many pollutants to drinking water have no obvious symptoms and about 50 percent of private water systems fail at least one drinking water standard. Having water tested regularly is the best way to ensure it remains safe to consume.

Water should be tested at least annually and should also be considered when there is:

  • a change in the appearance or taste of water
  • a problem, like flooding
  • damage to the well
  • a malfunction with the septic system or maintenance is done
  • a family or guests with recurrent gastrointestinal illnesses

The coliform and E coli water test offered by Guthrie gives a good indication of water condition, since coliform bacteria should not be found in drinking water. For more information visit www.guthrie.org/research/leap-testing-service or call 570-887-4645.
