Thank you for your interest in Guthrie’s General Surgery Residency Program. Ours is an excellent training program, fully supported by Guthrie administrators and physicians. As the major tertiary care center for the surrounding region, we see a full spectrum of surgical cases, giving residents the broad exposure so necessary to becoming skilled surgeons.
Our faculty members maintain a close professional and personal relationship with residents. The highest priority of our surgical faculty is teaching residents. Most of our faculty members have additional Fellowships or advanced training, allowing them to teach residents the most modern surgical techniques.
Surgical residents have access to all our surgical facilities, including our Advanced Surgical Center that houses new, state-of-the-art surgical suites. The physical proximity of faculty offices to the clinical areas and operating rooms allows residents to become involved early on in their patients’ cases and to maintain continuity of care throughout the recovery period.
From intern to chief, Guthrie residents receive outstanding training. Guthrie’s affiliation with the University of Rochester Medical Center allows second-year residents to complete a rotation in pediatric surgery and transplant surgery. Guthrie offers residents a unique combination of medical technology, professional expertise and individual attention. We are proud that the depth and breadth of experience are the hallmarks of a Guthrie-trained surgeon.
