Our nationally renowned teaching facility at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. operates as a teaching hospital, bringing in first class medical students and residents to train in internal medicine, family medicine, and general surgery. It also runs a fully accredited Bachelors of Science nursing program and allied health programs in radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, and medical laboratory sciences. The next generation of health workers receive hands on experience from experts in the field, and our patients are treated in an environment which is always learning and embracing new ideas.
Our campus provides the medical sophistication of a metropolitan hospital with the advantages of living and working within a rural community. The town of Sayre is within driving distance to regional cities such as Corning, Ithaca, Elmira and Binghamton, N.Y., and Scranton and Philadelphia, Pa. The Finger Lake and Adirondack Mountain regions of New York State and Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania are also within reach, and the town lies just off of I-86.
The Medical Laboratory Sciences program combines a high caliber education with a state-of-the-art learning environment to provide a 50-week internship, on top of 3-4 years of college. Upon successful completion of the internship, the student receives a baccalaureate degree from their affiliated university and a certificate in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from the Program.
The Radiologic Technology Program is a full-time, two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program. It is a collaborative program with The Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania/ Mansfield University’s Department of Health and Exercise Sciences. Students spend the first semester on the University campus in Mansfield, PA, and the remaining three semesters plus two summer sessions at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA, where they complete classroom and clinical experience.
The Mansfield University Respiratory Therapy Program is a full-time, four-year, Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program. It is a collaborative program with Mansfield University’s Department of Health Sciences and Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. Students spend the first two years on the campus in Mansfield, PA completing program pre-requisites and general education courses.
Guthrie has an active clerkship and elective program for medical students who are matriculated in an LCME accredited institution. Rotating medical students at Guthrie have the opportunity to become an active member of our medical team, attending teaching rounds and conferences, taking patient histories, performing physical examinations, and assisting in the operating room or with other procedures.
Guthrie offers clinical rotations to nurse practitioner students who are matriculated in a CCNE accredited institution. Rotating students at Guthrie have the opportunity to become an active member of our medical team, attending teaching rounds and conferences, taking patient histories, performing physical examinations, and assisting in the operating room or with other procedures.
Guthrie offers clinical rotations to physician assistant students who are matriculated in an ARC-PA accredited institution. Rotating students at Guthrie have the opportunity to become an active member of our medical team, attending teaching rounds and conferences, taking patient histories, performing physical examinations, and assisting in the operating room or with other procedures.
The Mansfield University Nursing Program offers a baccalaureate degree in nursing science (BSN) and is affiliated with the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania. The Nursing Program is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). A BSN degree prepares students to work in a variety of professional settings.

The Guthrie Scholars program is designed to give qualified seniors at Wilkes University who are interested in pursuing medicine the opportunity to earn 15 credits while gaining first hand knowledge of the life of a physician.

Guthrie’s Administrative Fellowship Program is a two-year post graduate program provided to a recent graduate of an accredited MHA, MBA, or MSN program
Guthrie’s Administrative Internship Program is a 10 week assignment which allows for students in an accredited MHA, MBA, or MSN program hands-on experience while in school.
