Our Mentorship Program
Our residency strongly values mentorship and individualized support, recognizing the important role mentors play in helping residents thrive personally, academically, and professionally throughout training. We believe meaningful mentorship is essential to helping each resident reach their full potential and build a fulfilling career in Emergency Medicine.
Prior to arrival, each intern is paired with both an upper-level resident mentor and a faculty mentor. Resident mentors help ease the transition into residency by answering questions, offering guidance, and providing peer support that often continues throughout residency. Faculty mentors are selected based on shared interests, career goals, and personality fit to help foster meaningful long-term relationships.
Residents meet with their faculty mentors regularly—ideally quarterly—to discuss career planning, specialty track interests, research and quality improvement projects, wellness, and individualized goals. Meetings are intentionally flexible and can take place in whatever environment works best, whether in the office, on a walk, or over coffee. Residents are also encouraged to meet more frequently whenever additional support or guidance is needed.
As residency progresses, many residents naturally develop additional mentorship relationships through committees, scholarly work, advocacy efforts, and shared clinical interests. This creates a strong culture of support, connection, and career development tailored to each resident’s unique goals and interests.
