Becoming a Model for Rural Health Care

IN A VAST RURAL AREA LIKE OURS, advancements in virtual technology and telemedicine have incredible potential to transform care delivery—and to reach every patient where they are. The Guthrie Clinic is seizing this moment for the good of the communities we serve.
| THE NEED |
|---|
| The Guthrie Pulse Center in Big Flats, N.Y., is showcasing the power of virtual tools, AI, and telemedicine to connect care teams and monitor patients across our hospitals. In this “command center,” nurses, intensive care physicians, telemetry technicians, and telesitters use real-time monitoring, data analytics, and two-way communication to support bedside teams caring for critically ill patients. Centralized bed management and our system transfer center allow us to move patients to the right location and level of care more quickly. But we’re just getting started. Imagine the impact we’ll have on more patients when we can extend The Pulse Center’s reach to every acute care unit in all Guthrie hospitals and care facilities. |

By supporting Here. For Good. The Campaign for Guthrie, you will help The Pulse Center advance its capabilities with more staff and new tools. You will make thousands of lives better by bringing this heightened level of care to every patient and every family who needs it. And you will pave the way for Guthrie’s plans to harness remote consultations and monitoring to help people manage chronic conditions outside the hospital—either at a nearby office or, ideally, right at home. BY SUPPORTING HERE. FOR GOOD., Guthrie’s comprehensive campaign, you will help The Guthrie Clinic lead the way for rural health care. Through this ambitious effort, Guthrie aims to become our region’s most trusted partner for healthy, local communities, as well as a national model for what rural health care can be. |
More Staff + More Technology = Expanded Capabilities
The Pulse Center has proven its ability to move patients to the right level of care more quickly, monitor them more closely, and speed response times during changes in status. Virtual care teams also handle documentation and sign-off tasks for bedside staff—freeing them to spend more time with patients.
You can ensure that every Guthrie facility benefits from The Pulse Center’s groundbreaking, tech-powered model of care. We won’t stop until every patient in every acute care unit receives the added oversight of our virtual nurses, telemetry technicians, telesitters, and physicians. As a result, patients and families will experience the same high level of care at every Guthrie hospital, especially the one closest to their home.
With your investment, we will add more virtual nurses and members in operations and care coordination. We will outfit all our hospitals—including our newest, Guthrie Lourdes—and nursing facilities with the tools needed to tap into The Pulse Center’s capabilities. These include:
- Digital whiteboards in patient rooms that capture real-time, shareable information
- Artisight cameras that power visual monitoring, vital sign collection, and data reporting
- Televisions with two-way capabilities that allow virtual nurses and telesitters to communicate with patients
Your support will also fuel our longer-term vision of harnessing The Pulse Center’s capabilities to help more patients receive care beyond hospital walls. For example, our Paramedicine Program offers virtual counseling and home visits from Emergency Medical Services, enabling many patients to avoid hospital trips. Guthrie will deploy more remote monitoring and communication tools to reach people who need help managing things like chronic conditions, medications, prenatal care, recovery after surgery—right where they are. But we can’t achieve this vision without you.
