Advancing Workforce Development and Education

THE GUTHRIE CLINIC HAS A CENTURY-LONG TRADITION of preparing new generations of health care providers. To thrive as a rural health system, we must invest in their careers and keep them at Guthrie.
| THE NEED |
|---|
|
In roughly 10 years, our nation will face a shortage of about 86,000 physicians, according to the Association of Medical Colleges. Many physicians are now over age 65 and will soon retire. Recruiting and retaining physicians—as well as nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, and other clinicians—can be even more challenging for a rural health system like ours. But as a highly advanced academic medical center, The Guthrie Clinic has so much to offer them. We’re fortunate to have education, training, and clinical rotation programs that allow us to “grow our own” physicians, nurses, and other providers. But to keep them here, we must give them more opportunities to develop their clinical and leadership skills and move forward in their profession with us. |
| YOUR IMPACT |
|---|
| With your support, Guthrie can attract and keep more of the best talent here, for the good of your families, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. You can help us execute a “hire-to-retire” retention strategy by supporting all Guthrie does not only to educate and train new clinicians but also to invest in their ongoing development as experts and leaders. The future of health care in your community depends on it. |
By supporting Here. For Good., Guthrie's comprehensive campaign, you will ensure that The Guthrie Clinic can lead the way for rural health care. Through this ambitious effort, Guthrie aims to become our region’s most trusted partner for healthy local communities, as well as a national model for what rural health can be.
You can create endowed scholarships, chairs, and research positions that make Guthrie an even more attractive place for the very best trainees and physicians to build long-term careers.
Fellowship support allows newly minted physicians and residents to devote time to research that brings new treatments and other discoveries to the bedside. With mentoring from Guthrie’s physician-researchers, they can go on to build their own research careers.
You can help us expand housing for nursing students and our residents and fellows—a key factor in bringing them to Guthrie. At the same time, we must support residents when they need to travel for specialty training at other institutions.
Guthrie’s Simulation and Advanced Skills Institute (SASI) empowers residents and attending physicians to master new procedures and equipment before using them in the clinic. You can help SASI keep pace with new developments in medical technology.
When Guthrie residents, fellows, and faculty are able to present their work at national and international conferences, they not only advance our reputation but also bring back new knowledge that benefits the patients in their care.
To keep the best nurses, physicians, and other clinicians at The Guthrie Clinic, outstanding professional development is a must. Your support allows us to bring speakers to our campuses, offer leadership and clinical training, and send our clinicians to conferences and other educational programs.
