Acute Care Surgery
Patients sustaining serious injury, those requiring surgical intensive care and those suffering surgical problems—such as a ruptured appendix or a gall bladder attack—commonly require immediate operative intervention. At Guthrie, these patients are cared for by an Acute Care Surgery team. In-house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, this team is under the direct leadership of board-certified general surgeons who have specialized training in trauma and surgical critical care.
Acute Care Surgery is a newly developed specialty designed to provide care for patients sustaining traumatic injury, surgical patients requiring intensive care and those requiring emergency general surgery. It is endorsed and supported by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) and the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST). Guthrie is proud to be able to offer this service to its patients.
To ensure that a patient is referred to the most appropriate medical or surgical specialty, Guthrie offers The Regional Transfer Center, a one-call central point of access operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
