We launched a driver assessment that will help elderly, ill or previously injured patients and loved ones determine if you should be permitted to drive.
The assessment is a two-part test that identifies cognitive or physical changes that may affect your ability to drive safely:
- The first part of the assessment is performed at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., by an occupational therapist. The clinical assessment will evaluate your visual, cognitive, perceptual and motor skills that are necessary for safe driving.
- The second portion of the assessment is completed at a local driving school and will measure your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
A doctor’s referral is needed to schedule the evaluation and your health care provider who referred you for the assessment will receive your results and discuss them with you. The assessment is self-pay and generally not covered by most health insurances.
People with the following may benefit from the assessment:
- Neurological conditions
- Orthopedic conditions
