New Chief of Orthopaedics Arrives at Guthrie Corning Hospital

Sayre, Pa. – Guthrie Healthcare System is proud to announce the arrival of Joel McClurg, MD, Ph.D. as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery for Guthrie Corning Hospital.

Dr. McClurg comes to Corning from a private practice group in the Jacksonville, North Carolina area. Prior to that he was with the Ohio State University Hospitals, where he was Administrative Chief Resident and Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. McClurg said Guthrie’s approach to patient care is what brought him here. “Unlike the majority of medicine, Guthrie has had patient centered care as part of its' core values from the beginning, and not just as mission statement bullet. Guthrie embodies that patient first philosophy, and that was a major reason I agreed to come to Corning.”

Dr. McClurg earned both his medical degree and his Ph.D. from the Medical College of Ohio. His second degree is in biochemistry and molecular biology. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and board certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. McClurg will begin seeing patients at the Corning Centerway office and Guthrie Corning Hospital on April 2. Appointments can be made by calling 607-973-3100 and asking for the Orthopaedics Department.
