New Chief Medical Officer Joins Guthrie

Sayre, Pa. – Guthrie is proud to announce the appointment of Brian Fillipo, MD, MMM as Chief Medical Officer effective April 30, 2012.

Dr. Fillipo comes to Guthrie from St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, a part of the Bon Secours Healthcare System, where he is Vice President for Medical Affairs. He earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University Medical School in Philadelphia where he also did his residency and he earned a Masters in medical management from Tulane University in New Orleans.

Dr. Fillipo past positions include the Vice President for Quality and Patient Safety for the Connecticut Hospital Association and the Chief Quality Officer for the Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro, North Carolina and Associate Chief Medical Officer at Geisinger Health in Danville, Pa.

The Chief Medical Officer’s position provides leadership for all quality assessment and quality improvement efforts throughout the Guthrie system, to ensure that the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. Dr. Fillipo will also oversee the efforts designed to improve clinical performance and maintain compliance with JCAHO, HIPAA, and other accreditation standards. 

Guthrie Health is a community-based, not-for-profit health care system jointly formed by Guthrie Healthcare System (GHS) and Guthrie Clinic, also not-for-profit health care organizations.
