Sayre, PA – The Guthrie Healthcare System is proud to announce a new health care offering, the Guthrie Weight Loss Center. The new Weight Loss Center is a comprehensive weight loss program offering a healthy living approach to weight loss.
The program will offer you a personalized and integrated weight loss program incorporating medical, behavioral and surgical components tailored to each individual's
needs. Guthrie successfully recruited Joshua Alley, MD, FACS, as the Medical Director of the Guthrie Weight Loss Center.

Alley is a native of Illinois who graduated from the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine and went on to a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Commissioned as an officer in the Air Force in 1998, Alley served on active duty from 2002 until 2011. He was a trauma surgeon with the 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group, Balad Air Force Theater Hospital in Iraq and then the 452nd Combat Support Hospital in Afghanistan for more than two years, performing more than 500 war trauma surgeries in 10 months.
Alley received the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal, awarded for lifesaving care rendered to a U.S. solider with a penetrating cardiac injury at a forward operating base.
Published in several academic and medical journals, Alley has also performed medical mission work in Peru, Pakistan and Bangladesh. He holds membership in the Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. Alley is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He has performed over 200 bariatric procedures and has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, General Surgery News, The American Surgeon and others.
