Sayre, Pa. — Guthrie will offer a free basic nutrition class for adults on Thursday, January 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Patterson Auditorium on the Guthrie Sayre campus located at One Guthrie Square in Sayre, Pa.
This free seminar is open to community members and will be two hours of face-to-face, hands-on instruction encouraging participants to embrace a new attitude and understanding about food in the New Year. The interactive class will focus on making healthier food choices and participants will work through a series of activities receiving continuous feedback by health care professionals from the Guthrie Weight Loss Center. At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Name the "Big Three" macronutrients found within food
- Read and use the food label to compare nutritional contents of similar foods and beverages
- Identify the five basic food groups and provide examples for each identified group
- Describe at least two healthy changes you can make to support a lifestyle towards better nutrition
